Waves

To the waves of the year gone by
Waves of love and waves of loss,
of victory and of defeat,
of kindness and of cruelty,
of pride and of shame,
of peace and of fear,
of fullness and of emptiness,
of strength and of weakness,
of brilliant light and lightless darkness,
To all the teaching tides
tender and violent
That surfaced and carved our grace
for tomorrow’s waters.
